Seroond is a two-year whole-school transformation program for Armenia’s public schools recommended by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia.

We are pursuing the development of the whole child and the whole school, leveraging community and government integration-partnership.

Seroond drives transformation across the Armenian education system through three strategic pathways:

Whole School Transformation

Through this program we empower schools to innovate and improve teaching practices by cultivating a culture of collaboration and learning that responds to the needs of every student. Seroond supports this transformation by equipping schools with the tools, knowledge, and leadership capacity to implement evidence-based practices that drive sustainable change.

IT ALL STARTED WITH ONE SCHOOL...

Launched in the small mountain community of Takhta, Dilijan in 2020, Seroond is a new model for Armenian public education and a pathway to keep Teach For Armenia alumni engaged in the education sector. Initially struggling with low enrollment, the school experienced rapid growth, doubling enrollment, and academic performance by the end of the first school year. Thanks to a successful pilot in Takhta and an evaluation by the National Center for Education Development and Innovation, the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports endorsed the expansion of Seroond nationwide.

Kindergarten Innovation

Seroond brings a fresh vision to early childhood education by reimagining kindergartens as nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning spaces. We support educators in designing child-centered, play-based environments and localized methodologies thact promote whole-child development and ensure every child has a strong start.

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support

Implementing a social-emotional learning (SEL) component in 225 schools across Armenia, supported by the World Bank nationwide psychosocial support initiative.

Connected with
Seroond’s theory of change, the Seroond model is built around the idea of fostering leadership at every level
within the school:

The Seroond Model:
Leadership at Every Level

  • By leveraging Change-Based Learning as well as Social-Emotional Learning, we cultivate student leadership  through a holistic approach to education. Seroond’s methodology upholds Teach For Armenia’s commitment to Our 2050 Promise, central to the organization's Kochari

  • All existing teachers in a school can apply to become “Seroond Teachers'' through a 3-year training program. Meanwhile, we place 2+ Teach For Armenia alumni in the school to serve as teacher coaches.

  • In partnership with the principal and regional government, we place a Seroond Leadership Development Manager in the school building in order to oversee the implementation of the 3-year program.

Highlighting Innovation and Progress

Until 2024, all participating schools in our program had no more than 20 teachers and 110 students. This changed in September 2024, when we launched the program in our first large-scale school in Stepanavan, engaging 32 teachers and 530 students. The success in Stepanavan—reflected in student and teacher progress as well as recorded data—proved that the program is not only well-designed but also adaptable to schools of any size.

In addition, the Seroond initiative expanded into four schools and introduced its first preschool pilots in Areni and Dilijan, marking another important step in broadening our impact.
